Tiki Pole Thingy

Tiki Pole

Being back from Hawai’i seems to dictate a few appropriately-themed posts, so here’s the first. It’s from a sketchbook I had brought in the hope of getting a couple quickish drawings done while on the island for just such a purpose.

This one is just of a decorative pole outside the visitor center for the first national park we came across on the way down from the airport. Nothing says “welcome” like a carving of a demonic worm, you know. (Except maybe a carving of a severed head atop a stack of papayas, which is what this might also be.)

So, here’s another design entry for Red is White.

Originally I had wanted to do a more literal illustration of the Jonah story, but then Rosemary suggested having an actual x-ray view, which of course immediately bumps us into the realm of the metaphorical. Luckily, though, Jonah’s situation can also be applied to other circumstances, so that’s the direction I went.

Anyway, go take a look at the design, give it a nice rating if you can, and leave a comment if you feel so inclined.

Be warned, however, that my posse of Cyber-Hessians stand ready to rebut any wonton negativity with their own intricate comments on the subject of T-shirt perfection as it relates to whales and/or little bathroom-sign men.

Just thought you should know.
